‘Tis the season of pumpkin spice lattes, hot yoga, and blanket scarves. The leaves are changing, school is back in session, and a crisp chill fills the air. Hello cozy flannel shirts and bonfires!
Our Top Five Things to Do in the Fall:
1) See Salmon Jump at Stamp Falls
Come be awestruck by the stunning scene of salmon thrusting themselves against the rugged rock faces and rushing waters of Stamp Falls. The provincial park is also one of the best places to see our massive maple leaves.
2) Ride a Hay Wagon and Harvest a Pumpkin
You’re invited to experience a rustic Halloween themed ride at Arrowvale Campground & Collins’ Farm to their scenic pumpkin patch where you can choose your own pumpkin, fresh from the field.
3) Bring your Jack O’Lantern to Cathedral Grove
The day after Halloween means leaving your Jack O’Lantern at the edge of the highway through Cathedral Grove. For the next several weeks, you'll see the ghoulish grins guarding the forest.
4) Hike to Hole in the Wall
Reflect on our unique past at the jaw-dropping Hole in the Wall, which served as a water supply shortcut between the twin cities of Port Alberni and Alberni, which amalgamated in 1967. It’s a short, fairly easy walk definitely worth checking out.
5) View Bears from the Boardwalk
At Victoria Quay, you can safely view black bears across the Somass River as they fatten up on salmon and fruit to prepare for the cold winter ahead. The more remote Seaton Park and Nitnat River are also a great places to view wildlife in their natural habitats.
And a bonus #6: TOY RUN!
This annual charity event combines biker attitude with a community fundraiser to support local organizations. Vroom vroom!
